the project
Every year we honor the most outstanding unpaid volunteers doing great things to green up Queens. These people are nominated by their peers and a choice few are selected to be honored in November. This enourages other volunteers to do even more and better things in their park, community green or blue space. You dont hae to belong to a group-just be an outstanding volunteer.
the steps
We ask members of the civic and greening community to nominate people doing great things on a strictly volunteer level in Queens.
After the closing date of nominations, October 15, 2012, winners are selected and announced. They recieve their awards at a ceremony in November.
why we're doing it
We do this to honor those people who often get very little or zero recognition for their great volunteer work. This is not tied to any political agenda; these are the people out there on the front lines, doing volunteer work in our public areas, and not seeking any kind of recognition. They are the true volunteers that we are seeking to honor.
