the project

In 2022 we ran a trial series of music classes for our community's kids.

This was so warmly received that we are excited to bring the community together again with fully accessible, free classes for everyone in the neighborhood.

For one hour each week during the warmer months, our teacher, Adrian Martinez, who lives within our community, will take children on an artistic journey, exploring music and theory through the art of jamming using electronic production techniques.

Playing instruments is only the beginning of the hands-on experience as we will engage with recording equipment, digital FX, loopers, piano keyboard controllers and sampling tools.

Percussion instruments will be provided and participants are encouraged to bring whatever they consider an instrument to class to explore further.

We will explore self expression and collaboration by playing games that engage with rhythm and timing through storytelling, mathematics, geometry and physics from a musical perspective.

Parents will be shown how to amplify the culture of the class in their own family lives and how to facilitate music beyond with education resources, for example, how to create hi-end low-cost musical experiences at home, and how to approach creating sound with meaning with kids.

the steps

We will finalize the creation of a customized curriculum.

We will contract our instructors.

We will get the word out there for as many families as possible.

We will gather all required permits and equipment.

We will begin classes by June 2023.

why we're doing it

We are doing this to fill a gap in arts education, both locally and nationwide.

We are doing this to uplift our children and provide relief for parents.

We are doing this because we believe keeping classes free, democratic, and for the people is essential and builds community.
