$25K and halfway there

the project

The entire world turned its collective attention for the long overdue justice of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Oluwatoyin Salau, Elijah McClain, and the countless other Black people who have lost their lives to senseless violations of civil and human rights. Now, the revolution must be sustained. The Black community, its activists, healers, and creators are pouring from empty cups. Together, we can create the opportunity to fill them.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to package up one month of free, individualized therapy for 200+ Black people. We will use the funds to pay the BIPOC therapists who heal the community while also experiencing shared trauma.

the steps

  1. Raise $50,000 in total. (All donations are tax deductible).
  2. Black people in need of care will sign up via Google forms stating they're interested. (We'll be in touch with the link once the funds are raised).
  3. Easy Activism will provide the funds to cover one month of sliding-scale therapy until funds are no longer available.
  4. After the sessions are completed, the Therapist and the Client have the opportunity to continue their relationship for life.

why we're doing it

We are a collective of activists who are committed to sustaining the Black Lives Matter movement:

In Black communities, therapy has a high barrier of entry often due to lack of resources — all while the community is experiencing trauma at a disproportionate rate. BIPOC therapists are frequently being asked to work for free and we want to give back to both sides of the community, providing opportunity for both the therapists and the people who need care.

From new allies, commitment to the movement has started to fade. Long before George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, there was Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown. At the bare minimum, this project creates the opportunity for Black people to unpack years of the effects of systemic racism.

Donating to this cause is an easy form of activism you can take today.

$25K and halfway there

Hey Easy Activism supporters!

How is everyone? Hoping you’re finding time to recharge because it’s getting real autumny out here in New York. Summer is done-done. Which means winter is on the brink....but we don’t have to talk about that.

Last week we hit $25K (!!!) and now we’re over halfway to our goal which means over 100 Black people will get one month of free individualized therapy.

We’ve seen the community really show up for us in these last six weeks. Virtual dance parties in Texas, Twitch DJ sets in New York, photography sales in Boston...we even got an entire vegan cake flavor made for us in Chicago.

THANK YOU — if you’ve donated, shared the project with someone new, or simply reposted — know that your contributions will do beautiful things for the Black community.

We got some fun stuff lined up for the fall.

Can’t wait to continue sustaining the movement with you all.

Over $10K in the first 24 hours!

WOW.

We are overwhelmed and extremely humbled by your support. In the first 24 hours, we raised over $10,000 which means over 50 Black people will have access to one month of free therapy. We want each and every donor to know that we see you. We see that you're committed to change and for that we thank you.

This is community in action.
