Drive-In concert by Moises Borges and Mo'Mojo bands

Drive-In Concert Sun May 30th, 4 to 7pm at parking lot of Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland, Shaker Hts, stay in your cars for social distancing.

Leader

Moises Borges

Location

About the project

We propose to create this EXCITING fundraiser as a multicultural DRIVE-IN CONCERT with two AWESOME full bands featuring MOISES BORGES BRAZILIAN JAZZ and MO' MOJO. The audience will party and dance by their cars and each car will occupy two parking spots, so we can keep social distancing and abide by the COVID-19 government recommendations. The bands will play from a staging area located in front of the cars, with plenty of spacing for everyone.
The goals of this project are twofold:

First, to financially support side musicians, like drummers, bass players, wind instrument players, etc-- the ones that can not do a live show on their own and have faced the worst and long-lasting economic impact of COVID-19. This is the reason why this event will feature two full bands, so the performers can work and get paid. MOISES BORGES will present an up-tempo set of music with horns, percussion, drums, bass, guitar, and vocals on Brazilian Jazz, Samba, and other Rhythms. MO' MOJO is a hard-driving, high-energy, “Pardi-Gras” Band. The female-fronted group features rich harmonies, button box, twin guitars, rubboard, sax, trumpet, harp, bass, percussion, and drums. Songs are sung in English and French.  Mo' Mojo takes Zydeco music and infuses it with Blues, Americana, Cajun, reggae, rock & roll, funk, R&B.

Second, this event will help to celebrate the return of live music to outdoor concerts in Cleveland and hopefully will set the pace for a renewed vibrant musical scene in our city this summer.  It will bring Clevelanders back together after a long period of social isolation, quarentining and hardships.

The Steps

We're collaborating with the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland in Shaker Hts to host this event on their nice and wide rear parking lot, located at
21600 Shaker Blvd Shaker Hts 44122.
We were aiming to have this happening on Saturday, May 29th, but with the raining weather we will do it on our announced rain day which is the day after, Sunday May 30th at 4 pm. Come early for better parking.
To make this happen we will also be contacting the City Hall and the police to get permissions, recruit collaborators and volunteers, pay building custodial fees, hire a sound system company to run the sound, rent, and set up a nice stage. After the event, we will break everything down and clean up.
This free public event is only possible through community donations like yours, and it will be doubled by Cuyahoga Arta and Culture!

We appreciate your support.

Why we‘re doing it

During the last year, musicians, and especially side musicians, such as percussionists, bass players, and wind instrument players, faced a lot of economic hardships as a result of the long-term effects of the measures that were implemented to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. The continuous closure of concert venues, bars and clubs, where side musicians typically played as part of larger bands, created a situation by which musicians had to scramble to make ends meet, by taking odd jobs when available, migrating to other locations like me, changing their living arrangements, or simply getting by with very little money, access to health care, or to other resources for over year.

You might recall that we already organized two of these fundraiser events, one in August and one in October of 2020, and in all likelihood, you already supported these efforts. We are deeply grateful to the generosity of the Cleveland community and its support for its musicians. However, we find it necessary to create this third fundraiser event because the negative economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic did not end last year and in fact continued unabated this year, especially for side musicians. We are hoping that as we return to a certain normalcy and concert venues, bars and clubs begin to re-open, side musicians will gradually be able to return to their normal jobs and we won’t have to do this type of fundraiser again. In the meantime, we are appealing to your generosity again, to help alleviate in some way the current economic needs of these musicians.

Please help to support the Cleveland Musicians and make a donation that is meaningful for you.
Donate now to double your donation. You can also give cash donations at the door.
P.S: Walk up into the event is not permitted. No motorcycles, no big trucks allowed. Bring your own snacks and refreshments.
