the project

Commercialized financial, career, and/or life coaching and advisement (each typically charging upwards of $100 per session), has long been a stapled privilege afforded by affluent clientele; as the adage goes, it "takes" money to make money. Yet, these services continue to be systemically out of reach within historically under-resourced communities that steadily face racial, gender and class inequality, even more so within the intersectionality, that hinders growth towards stability and economic prosperity.

Enter Discover Your Pace (DYP), a counter-cultural nonprofit that focuses on providing greater access to practical coaching and advising programs that foster financial literacy and personal/professional development, all while inspiring our members to actively engage in charitable service within their local communities (12 - 60+ hours annually).

  •  We aim to educate our members: financially by implementing strategies to build savings and eliminating debts (saving a 10+ month emergency fund), professionally by honing transferable skills to advance (earning 10%+ increase in pay/revenue), and personally by enhancing accountability/mitigation techniques to forge ahead (completing 10+ perpetual to dos), all to gain greater flexibility to get involved!

our program

DYP advisors collaborate with each member to implement a customized action plan (supported by our three-prong strategic advisory framework), to provide our members with keen adaptable insights and tailored developmental activities to enhance their decision making, both instinctually and concisely.

  • Personal Finances by teaching greater structured budgetary principles, to instill a solid foundation of self-Discipline.
  • Professional Career by deveoping greater transferable core proficiencies, to ignite a steadfast growth of self-Confidence.
  • Primary Life by building greater resourceful accountability practices, to infuse a strong knack of self-Initiative.

Furthermore, DYP encourages our members to "Pay It Forward" by employing their gained acumen, to take on greater supportive and leadership roles within their community, providing local nonprofit organizations with a broader range of charitable contributions that span beyond just giving fundraising dollars, to spark members to advocate for greater reform, opportunity, and inclusion (ROI).

why we're doing it

Alone, life burdens can consume us, convince us that it's no one else's responsibility, that no one else cares about our issues; after all there's so much going on around us that's beyond "minor" personal concerns. So we keep it to ourselves, mentally juggling the insecurities, joys, fears, and aspirations, never truly knowing which ball will drop first or how often.

  • Sometimes we reach out to comrades (our peers) or collaborators (mentors) or even push past the stigma that still surrounds counseling (therapists). All amazing resources in their own right, but may not fully offer the guidance one seeks.

                                 ***The Resource Gap***

  • Now of course, there are highly paid experts that can offer consulting (specialists), that will campaign for you (be supporters), or even challenge you (be skeptics), all for the right price and believe me, most are worth the costs in the long run.

But what about the middle ground, the gap in between, that can serve as a bridge that allows you to better manage those burdens when you do indeed have to go at it alone, affordably. That's where coaching comes in, that's what we strive to bring to under-resourced communities, here at Discover Your Pace.

special thanks

With the supportive efforts of our first three pro-bono advisory clients back in 2017, all now currently serving on the inaugural Board of Directors, Discover Your Pace was successfully incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2020! Additionally, DYP would like to thank Lawyers Clearinghouse & Dechert LLP for providing pro-bono legal services during our incorporation to launch phases. Thank you all!
