the project

New York City’s food delivery cyclists provided a vital service during our COVID-19 shutdown. They also struggled as the pandemic amplified the indignities and harsh working conditions of delivery work. This project seeks to document their experiences.

Delivering Relief continues The Biking Public Project’s 2017 Delivering Justice project. Through participatory action research and documentary film we uncover the invisible stories and needs of delivery workers. Before the pandemic hit, we were engaged in the #deliverjustice campaign to legalize e-bikes in New York State and City. Though the campaign was ultimately successful, delivery cyclists saw little relief as new challenges emerged as a result of COVID-19.

why we're doing it

The Biking Public Project (BPP) has been around since 2012 and we work with groups who have been traditionally left out of cycling discussions such as women, people of color, immigrants, and working cyclists.  This work is critical to facilitating more inclusive discussions of cycling advocacy in New York City and beyond.
