About the project
When you mention Mosholu Parkway, one would think that it's only a parkway to drive back and forth from one point to the other. However, to others who have resided surrounding Mosholu, the parkway and its enclaves have been their park, their forest, and their medicine for having a healthier lifestyle. Mosholu Parkland provides the park experience without "park" recognition from the city gov
Years later, the pretty greenway and parkway have new paths and sidewalks to walk on when crossing over the parkland! After advocating with DOT about getting new walking paths in due to the increase in housing and new families moving in, the concrete sidewalks are in for safety and accessibility! Friends of Mosholu Parkland introduced the walking path by displaying beautiful yellow daffodils this year for the spring show. After the daffodils displayed their blooms, residents, old and new, have reached out wanting to see more flowers and new gardens.
This long overdue investment in the space by expanding and creating new garden beds in a space where it's not commonly seen as a park will also help bring in new neighbors and connect with others.
Let's do it! Let's continue to add more and more flowers on Mosholu to enjoy as we walk by or see while driving on the parkway. With new paths, we can add colorful tulips and different daffodils to the several sections for the Spring Mosholu Show 2024!
Now is the time to order the bulbs because they are on SALE! Order now and pay later was the option we chose! We ordered lots and lots of tulips and fragrant daffodils. We are raising money to pay for the ordered tulips. At up to 75% off- this was a deal we couldn't pass up.
It's going to look beautiful with the help of neighbors, new families, seniors, students, and anyone else interested in being part of the Mosholu beautification.
Mosholu is not just a parkway. If you slow down, walk slowly on one of its new paths, past a new garden bed, sit on one of its many park benches, and just observe the passive activities around, then one will see a new rise of Mosholu Parkland, enough to continue to advocate for a real park status under the government agencies.
The Steps
Many tulips and daffodils have been ordered on a super sale from a good quality bulb company. We chose the purchase now and pay later option.
With the raised funding, we can pay off the bulbs and in September the bulbs will be delivered.
A public event will be shared with the community of Bedford Park, Norwood, and surrounding Mosholu residents and businesses.
We begin planting all along Mosholu!!
Why we‘re doing it
Beautifying Mosholu and creating fall gardens is what this community deserves following all of the massive housing developments that have taken whatever green spaces between streets. Though we welcome new families to the community, concrete and bricks have become the more prominent element of our blocks. We can counter-act that cold view by planting flowers for a spring show on Mosholu.
Neighborhood beautification can improve the quality of life of the residents. Living in pleasant surroundings improves daily life. and may help to foster connections among residents When a person has a good quality of life they are happier and relieved of many stressors related to their safety and well-being.
With their colorful and beautiful blooms, flowers are often seen as symbols of joy and pleasure. Flowers Symbolize Growth and Life
