Come join DeafConnect of the Mid-South in our annual celebration of D/deaf and Hard of Hearing culture this September for Deaf Awareness Month. COVID-19 has impacted our ability to do what the Deaf community loves the most: gathering together as one. That is why it is all the more important to show the D/deaf community, more than 100,000 people in the Mid-South alone (!), our love and support in 2022. This blowout has had such things as a bouncy house, Deaf artist performances, a food truck and more! This gathering will also have resource tables for those interested in learning more about people with hearing loss. If you can't join us please consider giving to our fund for fun!

why we're doing it
DeafConnect of the Mid-South has been hosting a celebration for Deaf Awareness Month since 2015. While this event started some years back, the mission has stayed the same: gathering together a community. People who live with hearing loss in Memphis, whether hard of hearing or Deaf, are not given the same level of access to recreational and community events that most hearing people are given. This means they feel left out or even isolated from their local neighborhood. DeafConnect's goal as a nonprofit is to fight for people's right to be seen, heard and celebrated for who they are. Every Memphian should know how great our city is and feel community ties to the Mid-South. This is why DeafConnect hosts captioned movie nights, Taco Tuesdays, bowling nights and interpreters at music events around the city! Let's make the Mid-South a more neighborly place, one fantastic event at a time!
