Dia de Muertos is a Latin-specific religious and spiritual celebration with its origins rooted in Mexico. It is a celebration to honor ancestors and other deceased loved ones. Dia de Muertos is a communal celebration, meant to be celebrated with family and friends to gather at specific sites to honor and greet the departed as they make their journey back to the living each year. The annual tradition integrates pre-Columbian (indigenous) and Catholic customs and is typically celebrated alongside Catholic Holy Days of All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day in November.


Latin Organization of Arkansas’s Dia de Muertos returns in its 9th year to Shiloh Square in Springdale, Arkansas! The event will be held on November 4th from 12:00 PM - 6 PM. Dia de Muertos 2023 includes an arts and crafts space, food and craft vendors, and over 6 performances featuring NWA local Latino/a/x/e artists performing Mexican music as well as LAOA’s Ballet Folklorica Herencia de Mexico. Programs leading to the November 4th event include art and craft workshops and the community ofrenda at Shiloh Square. Dia de Muertos is a family-friendly event and is free to the public. LAOA welcomes all people to experience, observe, and participate in the Dia de Muertos celebration and program workshops. 

LAOA’s proposed partners for programming and administration include Downtown Springdale Alliance and Crystal Bridges
