the project

Our vision is to create a mobile learning lab using a repurposed bus.  The mobile lab allows us to create access to high-quality educational programs for youth and adults all around the rural communities we serve. We will literally meet people where they are, right in their communities, to teach technical computer skills, coding, and workforce development skills.  The mobile learning lab allows us to increase access to technology, access to broadband internet, and access to high-quality learning experiences to rural areas, many of which are Tier 1 communities in NC.  Our goal is to remove the barriers of transportation and access to the internet for many people in rural communities by literally taking these programs to their communities (community centers, churches, playgrounds, etc). The mobile lab will be equipped with devices and a projector/screen.

the steps

1. We will purchase a school bus from a local school district.
2. In August-December 2019, we are partnering with North Carolina State University's School of Design students and faculty to design the inside and outside of the learning lab. By the end of December, we will have the design of the inside and outside of bus completed. The fee for this partnership with NCSU is $2000.
3. In spring 2020, we will work with a team of community volunteers to reconstruct the inside of the school bus using the design plans provided by NCSU students.
4. We will work with a local sign and printing company to wrap the outside of the learning lab with graphics designed by NCSU.
5. By the Summer of 2020, we should have fully-operated Creating Success Mobile Learning Lab serving the Kerr-Tar region!

why we're doing it

We believe rural communities can thrive and flourish.  The Creating Success Mobile Learning Lab will remove barriers such as access to transportation, broadband internet access, and technology/devices by literally meeting people in their communities and teaching them valuable skills.
