UPDATE -- April 19
The Sharing Place completed their April distribution on Saturday. Your contribution -- and the completion of our $5,000 goal -- will ensure that the food pantry can continue to match extra demand during this COVID-19 crisis.
Here are the details from April 18's distribution.
14,000 pounds of food | 195 families | 4 bags per family, each containing frozen chicken, fresh onions, fresh green beans, milk, pasta, and various canned commodities

No one should go hungry.
With food insecurity rising due to the COVID-19 crisis, Sustainable JC is running a fundraiser to support The Sharing Place food pantry at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (at Five Corners near Journal Square).
Sustainable JC has a long-standing relationship with this exceptional food pantry. The Sharing Place has a working relationship with the City of Jersey City, Hudson County and various community stakeholders.
To meet the expanded needs for food distribution in Hudson County, The Sharing Place is operating beyond its capacity financially. This campaign enables The Sharing Place to continue buying food as well as personal protective equipment (PPE -- N95 masks, gloves, sanitizer) for the pantry's monthly distribution.
Achieving our $5,000 goal would guarantee The Sharing Place the ability to provide the next three months of food distributions. At a time when so many are anxious, you can ensure your neighbors have one less thing to worry about.
the steps
- Early April: campaign launches; raise awareness through email, social media and word of mouth
- May 15: campaign ends
- Deliver check to The Sharing Place: assist with the purchase of fresh food items not always available from traditional sources, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE) for safe distribution
why we're doing it
The Sharing Place needs the Hudson County community's help to keep up with additional demand during the fallout from COVID-19. Your donation allows the pantry to stay stocked and to provide meals to any individual or family who is hungry. The Sharing Place never turns anyone away!
This crowdfunding campaign is aligned with Sustainable JC's Mission and Charter. Activating residents to contribute to this vital cause during the pandemic is critical.
The Sharing Place is a haven for Jersey City and Hudson County residents in need. Sustainable JC is helping to lift the burden of hunger during these trying times. Join us!
**The Sharing Place is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is one of the county's oldest and largest food pantries, serving the needs of low- and very low-income families and individuals. It is a partner agency with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (part of the Feeding America network) and receives Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) funding through Jersey City's Division of Community Development.
**Sustainable JC is a catalyst organization with a vision for Jersey City to become the most sustainable city in New Jersey, with community stakeholders who are educated about and committed to environmental, economic and social justice.
