About the project

A public bicycle repair stand is a place to hang your bicycle to make it easy to work on. The stands have the tools, an air pump, and step-by-step directions that will help you fix most minor problems. Our goal is to place two public bicycle repair stands in Cooper Young. One stand will be placed at Memphis Made Brewery and the second repair stand will be placed at Revolutions Bicycle Co-Op, thereby anchoring Cooper Young with bicycle amenities (along with the bicycle corral at First Congregational Church) and ensuring that all visitors to Cooper Young are aware of the neighborhood’s bicycle friendliness. This neighbor-led project has partners in Cooper Young Community Association, Cooper Young Business Association, Revolutions Bicycle Co-Op, VOQAL, Memphis Hardcourt Bike Polo, and Bike Walk Memphis. Now we are asking for your help!

The Steps

Utilizing the money that we’ve raised through the partners and you, we will purchase the bicycle repair stands and install them.

Why we‘re doing it

As Cooper Young continues to attract new visitors and residents, parking becomes an area of concern. The neighborhood’s 460 public and private parking spots are taxed by the 40,000 to 50,000 weekly visitors. Cooper Young is a leader in encouraging the use of bicycles through Yvonne Bobo’s artistic Ginkgo Bicycle Racks scattered throughout the neighborhood and the City’s first bicycle corral installed at First Congregational Church. Public bicycle repair stands further enhance these features and eliminate many of the “What if?” barriers associated with bicycling to destinations.
