About the project
The Pakistani Cultural Garden has been working towards creating a space in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens to represent our culture. In this amazing outdoor space, we hope to guide people to learn more about our heritage and contributions to society. We have completed most of Phase One of our project.
We have laid the foundation for our main structure, for Phase two, the Minar-e-Pakistan. We have built the amphitheater for viewing performances. We have even built the side garden to sit and reflect, or to view performances from another angle. The soil has been prepped thus allowing for grass and most of the plantings to be put in place. We have wonderful plaques explaining our long history and very rich culture.
We are in the final stretch and just need a little more work to finalize the project. We are getting everything fully ready for the spring. This will be the first spring for our community to appreciate the fruits of our labor. We wanted to trim everything up and make it nice and tidy. We also wanted spring bulbs (500) planted so as to welcome the change in season in style.
Most of Phase One of our Construction is complete. We just needed some extra financial support to bring it to the finish line.
The Steps
Cleaning up all loose ends.
Ground work:
We are planting about 500 bulbs for spring.
We need to trim the plantings and weed all empty space.
All empty space needs to be heavily mulched.
This part of the project was very recently completed before the ground froze.
Foundation:
Some of the foundation needs to be winterized.
Metal work:
Metal, mostly on informational plaques, needs final touches.
All of these are parts of the project that need immediate attention.
Why we‘re doing it
We have been building this outdoor museum to educate the public about our people and our culture. We feel that many of our fellow residents of northeast Ohio have never met anyone from Pakistan. If a stroll through the Pakistani Cultural Garden can be a catalyst for starting a conversation about sharing of ideas and exploring different cultures, then the world will be a better place. Hopefully the Pakistani Cultural Garden will open up a dialogue between friends, neighbors and colleagues. We hope this will lead to fulfilling the motto of the Cultural Gardens, ‘Peace through mutual understanding.’
