CLEVELAND ACTION/BLACK LIVES MATTER

November 23rd will mark one year since 12-year-old Tamir Rice was murdered by Cleveland Police Officer Timothy Loehman. On the weekend commemorating his death the people of Cleveland, friends and accomplices will gather and call for action to ensure that the senseless killing of Black people in Cleveland comes to an end and that those responsible for the deaths are held accountable. In the name of Tamir Rice, Tanisha Anderson, Timothy Russel, Malissa Williams, Ralkina Jones, John Crawford III and all the lives cut short at the hands of the police we demand an end to the epidemic of police violence. This project is dedicated to the pursuit of justice for stolen lives.

WHY WE MUST FIGHT FOR JUSTICE & DECRY POLICE BRUTALITY

There are countless cases, many unknown or without the mass media attention given to the names we have mentioned here. But we fight for justice for all, including John Crawford, Walter Scott, Rekia Boyd and all stolen lives.

We appeal to you for your help in providing legal and bail support for those who enlist in the fight for justice and equality. 100% of your donations will provide bail and legal support. Thank you.

why we're doing it

WE ARE THE ONES WE ARE WAITING FOR
Black and Brown people are disproportionately victims of racialized violence in our society. Many of those targeted do not have the financial resources to provide the legal and bail support needed to challenge the injustices of a system that is already systemically biased. This project insures every person receives his or her day in court with due process and representation faithful to realized justice and equality for all. This movement is the people's movement. We are the ones we are waiting for. This project is a practical way everyone can become involved in a movement committed to dismantling systems of oppression.

Tamir Rice was just a child

Imagine the spirited energy you beheld as a 12-year old youth. You probably had an imagination bigger than life which may have involved weapons to protect your planet or to save the human race from a plague of evil. You probably immitated martial arts move and built forts for your defense. Imagine playing in a park and being gunned down for innocent child's play. This is the tragic narrative of a 12-year old boy who played with a toy gun in a park. His name was Tamir Rice. This weekend marks the anniversar of his death. His parents, siblings and community still mourn his loss. And we continue to fight for justice.

Here are the facts:

  • Tamir was a 12-year old child.
  • Tamir came to the Rec center and playground of Cudell Park everyday after school with his sister.
  • Ohio is an open carry state (so carryiing a registered gun is not illegal).
  • Tamir was shot in under 1-second (so no warning or attempt to discover if gun was real and if there was imminent danger)
  • The person who called 911 said the gun was probably not real.
  • The information the caller shared with the operator was not relayed to the officers.
  • The officer who shot Tamir had a questionable professional background and was dismissed from his former place of employment because he was "high risk".
  • The officers did not provide medical aid for more than 4 minutes as Tamir was dying.
  • An undercover officer responded to the scene and it was only then that Tamir received medical care.
  • When Tamir's older sister tried to assist her brother, the officers placed her in handcuffs and in the back of a police car.
  • Tamir's mother had to make a choice upon arriving on the scene: go in ambulance with dying son or go to police station with her daughter.
  • Tamir died November 23, 2014, one day after he was shot and killed by Cleveland police.
  • This is a tragedy. But we don't want this to be the end of the story or Tamir's legacy. We want justice for Tamir.
  • A secret grand jury has been in session and the officers have been given an opportunity to testify.

We want Tamir's family to testify. We want a fair and balanced hearing so that justice can prevail.

We need your support. We thank you for your solidarity in this movement for justice, peace and equality.
