the project

Our group's goal is to create a memorial mural for the Memphis musician Chris Bell, the guitarist for Big Star.  Chris is best known for his work on Big Star's "#1 Record" and his solo album "I Am The Cosmos".  He died tragically in Memphis in 1978 though his legacy has grown over the past decades.  It is time to create a mural to celebrate his work and life and build awareness of his contribution to music.   We are working with professional artist, muralist, and Memphian Mary Norman to design and create the mural.

the steps

Our current goal is to secure funding for artwork and labor.  Once this is finished, we will prep the wall and start painting the mural.

why we're doing it

Chris Bell was an important Memphis artist, and this mural will remind existing fans of his importance, and serve as an introduction to other music lovers who have not heard his work.  The end result will be a beautiful piece of art for all Memphians to enjoy.

We're closing our ioby account this weekend, so Saturday June 13th will be the last opportunity to donate online.  Please consider supporting the project through a donation if you have not already done so!  The project is moving forward - currently the artwork is being finalized, and soon we'll begin prepping the wall for the artwork.  There may be opportunities for volunteer work, or donations of paint and materials if people are interested.
