the project

For my Girl Scout Gold Award Project I will be working to build three Little Free Libraries within my community. There will be one placed outside each elementary school within my town. My passion and reason behind carrying out this Girl Scouts Gold Award Project is to encourage kids to read more and give them easy and free access to reading materials. With the growing technological world, children are reading much less and being introduced to screens at younger ages. My goal is that these libraries will give children easy access to reading materials, encourage them to read more often and create a fun way for them to trade and read books.

They will be useful and successful as Wyoming is a small, walking community where children can walk or bike a short distance to get these books. Additionally, the libraries are free, close by, and open during the summer. So they provide something that bookstores/libraries don't in the sense they don't cost money, and that children will be able to access reading materials during the summer months which school libraries can't provide. Please join me in supporting children's literacy skills and giving children the set of skills that reading gives kids as I earn the highest award in Girl Scouting, The Girl Scout Gold Award.

why we're doing it

The reason behind pursuing this project is because of the growing issue that not only exists within the community of Wyoming but within the world in general. I want to build these little free libraries to encourage children to read because of the large set of skills reading brings you. It helps people with communication, concentration and imagination.  With this Girl Scout Gold Awad Project, I am working towards helping our community and surrounding towns' children read more and experience all the wonderful things that books can bring to an individual.
