About the project
At Child Welfare Organizing Project (CWOP) we advocate for parents and families effected by or at risk of being effected by ACS. We empower them to be leaders within the community. We do this with the assistance of community-based professional partnerships, i.e. Columbia School of Social Work, Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, Northside family center. Many of our families live in poverty and often times have not had a nutritious meal for the day. This is why there is a need to upgrade our kitchen. With the upgrade we will meet city standards that allow us to partner with Food Bank NY. It is our hope to receive fresh food from Food Bank NY so that we are able to provide healthy meals daily to all who attend our advocacy programming.
The Steps
Ourtreach through phone banking, door-knocking, social media, and distributing flyers.
Why we‘re doing it
Famlies in our community, many of whom participate in our programming, live in poverty and often go without healthy meals. By upgrading our kitchen and partnering with Food Bank of NY we are able to directly address the need of regular nutritious meals. Many families believe that healthy foods are not attainable because of financial constraints. This program wil help to alleviate this barrier.
