Chenchita's Community Garden is New York City GreenThumb community garden expanding our Farmer’s Market Operation. Our group has started indoors seedlings for this 2015 season. We also, purchased perennials and annual flowers plants, herbs, ground covers and vegetables from the Green Market farm every year. This year we are fortunate to have Science teacher Miss White of PS IS 180M Hugo Newman School participating with us. Participating students will be starting seedlings of various vegetables and flowers for transplant in Chenchita's Community Garden.
Several of our garden members have 15 years experience growing vegetables, flowers, and herbs. The certifications held by some of our members include Master Gardener, Tree Pruner, Square Foot Gardening Instructor, Bee Keeper, Master Composter, Captain Tree Leader, Health Coach and Just Food's "Train the Trainers." Additionally, some of our international members have studied Permaculture in different communities and countries.
the steps
Chenchita's will be hosting demonstrations, informationals, Do-It-Yourself (D.I.Y.) recipes and hands-on projects, and rich open discussions covering many topics important to our gardening community, including how to become an urban farmer.
why we're doing it
Educating our community on the importance of environmental sustainability is vital in learning how to achieve and access good health and healthy solutions for our bodies, minds, and souls.
