About the project
In 2021, Women's Fund launched our first community initiative, Change the Cycle, to combat period poverty in Lorain County. Period Poverty is the lack of affordable access to period products. Our goal is to collect one million pads and tampons to distribute to menstruating people in Lorain County who are experiencing period poverty. Right now, one in five women and teens report missing school or work due to a lack of access to period supplies.
Anchored in every community in Lorain County and with longer open hours, libraries offer a convenient location for those in need to obtain a supply of tampons or pads. Dollars raised throughout our ioby campaign will go towards purchasing product dispensers for one restroom in each of our 15 library locations throughout Lorain County. Eventually, Women's Fund plans to place free dispensers in ALL library restrooms throughout Lorain County. Any additional dollars raised will be used to purchase tampons and pads in bulk for pennies on the dollar.
The Steps
Confirm installation locations with libraries.
Order dispensers.
Design and produce branding stickers for the front of the dispensers.
Install and stock dispensers.
Keep dispensers stocked.
Why we‘re doing it
Women without access to period supplies often use substitute products, such as toilet tissue or socks, and stretch product usage which could lead to severe health issues. Sustaining an ongoing and affordable supply of period products leads to having empowered, successful, and independent members of our community.
