the project

I met Father Gallegos in 1981 while cruising my Low-rider on Franklin Blvd. in front of St. Rose's Church. This is where Father Gallegos would come out on Friday and Saturday nights. He would talk to us and encourage us to go to school and church. He was like a father figure to all of us. He would bless the cars and Be the go-between with the police department. When he was killed in 1991 we were all heartbroken everyone Loved him. In 1995 I felt the need to write a play to remember him. the play is called Burnt Tortillas Bishop Gallegos Story. We raised money for the church in his name. Also, we have done the play only a few times. COVID hit us two years ago. We had the Sierra two Center sold out, But we had to Cancel. Now we are trying to do the play on February 11th and 12th 2023.  The Vatican has assigned a Priest by the name of Father Eliseo Gonzales to cover everything we do. Because Bishop Gallegos is now up for Saint Hood. Once he becomes a Saint Sacramento will be put on the world's map for Catholics to follow Bishop's life. We are also doing The Bishop's Cruise. Every year from now on This is where the Low-rider community will hold a Festival for Saint Rose's and raise money for a scholarship fund in Bishop Gallego's name.

why we're doing it

By us doing this story about Bishop Gallegos, we are educating the public about a man who achieved his goals regardless of his disability. His eyesight of being legally blind from a child. To become a priest and then the first Mexican American Bishop in California, in over 100 years. And now to become a Saint. This shows how special he was. The Sacramento area will become a tourist attraction even more so. for the Catholics for those who will follow his life. His life story will help explain and educate the Sacramento area of a local hero. All the Latino culture has someone to look up to and Honor. The Low-rider community and all other cultures that Bishop worked with. In keeping the Bishop's legacy alive. To this day we remember him with Loving memories. This will bring in tourists for the Sacramento community and money .
