BUGS PTA/School Direct Appeal

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, or other friend of the Brooklyn Urban Garden Charter School (BUGS), you make it a very special place where our children thrive as middle school students. In order to support the school's fabulous programs to build sustainability-focused citizens, the PTA is joining Executive Director Susan Tenner to launch this Direct Appeal campaign. You can help us Spring into Action by helping us reach our goal by donating during this time-limited match period!

In January, the PTA approved a budget to support a variety of school programs. This Direct Appeal helps us close the funding gap for the PTA to support these valuable programs.

·        In-classroom culinary education sponsored by the PTA 

·        Expenses related to the Garden Manager and her work with all grades

·        Author visits 

·        Student social activities (i.e. WinterFest)

·        Teacher appreciation meals

·        Slow Food cooking class and planting

·        High school presentation by expert Joyce Szuflita,

·        BUGS’s meditation program through the David Lynch Foundation.

Students have already benefited greatly from these programs as you can see from the pictures attached.

Since September, the PTA has raised approximately $6,500 via uniform sales, cash donations from parents, Open House snack sales, and the Screenagers movie event. We also have more events to come including the Brooklyn PTA Fun Run, Flower Power, and a BUGS Book Fair. This Dirct Appeal Fundraiser will fill the gap for the PTA and School to raise the remaining funds necessary to fund these great programs!

We are thrilled that these types of expenses are eligible for a one-time matching grant of up to $5,000 facilitated by our fundraising platform provider IOBY. As soon as we start raising funds, matching funds will also be applied. If you follow the campaign, the amount that shows up in the 'Raise So Far' number will include all matching funds provided by IOBY.  

Act fast before the match runs out! There are other schools/programs running simultaneously that are also eligible for this matching grant and it is first come, first served for the limited funds, so please give generously and sooner than later so that we may take advantage of this one-time opportunity. As these programs that we are funding are for this school year, we are aiming to complete our campaign no later than May 15, 2018.
