About the project
Due to many years of neglect, the lawn in the upper section of the park is in a sorry state. We aim to transform and beautify this area of the park by planting natives that will thrive and become a permanent feature of the park.
But the project doesn't stop with planting. We also need to care for the lawn and other areas of the park. To do this, we need a variety of tools from rakes and brooms to watering cans and hoses. The Stewards of Brust Park aim to give the park the care it needs and deserves. Our ultimate goal is to have the upper park become a beautiful green sanctuary for all members of the community to enjoy.
The second component of our project includes two bulletin boards, one each for the upper and lower sections of the park. We will use the boards to provide updates about park events such as weeding and planting days, to advocate for the park, as well as for educational efforts.
The Steps
Mid-May: Soil preparation
End-May: Planting
Post-planting: Weekly watering, weeding, and general care of the park.
Why we‘re doing it
For too long the upper section of Brust Park has been left uncared for. The Stewards of Brust Park has started making slow improvements, including planting 1,000 daffodils in the upper section.
