About the project
Biggs Hillside Garden is a ReClaim Northside project in the Fineview neighborhood of Pittsburgh transforming a vacant parcel of land into a community garden and gathering space. The project engages residents from the neighborhood to learn about transforming vacant lots and planting. When completed it will serve as a public space for reflection and connecting with nature and the neighbors.
The Steps
Volunteer days will be held in the evening and on weekends through out the summer. Current scheduled Volunteer Days are Saturday, May 9th from 9am - 2pm; Friday, June 3rd at 6:30pm; Saturday, June 13th from 10am - 2pm; and Saturday, June 20th from 9am - 2pm. Additional dates pending. Completion of garden will be August 2015
Why we‘re doing it
Fineview, a once thriving community in Pittsburgh, has lost 36% of it's occupied housing since the 1950s and 73% of it's population. In ReClaiming this vacant parcel of land, that is a step forward in revitalizing and rebuilding the neighborhood. When the project is completed it will become an asset to the community to build upon.
