the project

BCAP understands that the appreciation and respect for multicultural diversity leads to the creation of welcoming and strong communities.  Bhutanese Youth: crossing cultures, creating connections is a unique partnership between BCAP and Center of Life. BCAP youth from the South Hills suburbs will meet with youth from the Hazelwood community to explore their common interests around music and technology. Together, they’ll meet regularly to for opportunities to create original music, dance and videos.By working together and uniting through arts exploration, teens will learn and appreciate each other’s respective cultures and communities. When kids learn together, they thrive together.

Please help us to support this opportunity for our youth. Your gifts will allow for transportation and program opportunities. We (literally!) need to cross bridges to learn more about each other. It is through partnerships like this, between organizations that share a common mission around youth engagement, that we truly can make a difference.

Join us in supporting Bhutanese Youth: Crossing Cultures, Creating Connections. It's an exciting time to give, as all gifts will be doubled through a matching grant from the Jefferson Regional Foundation!

the steps

  • Arrange transportation for youth to Center of Life.
  • Provide arts opportunities in music, dance and video production.
  • Host performance opportunities.
  • Create opportunities for parents and other family members to meet and engage.

why we're doing it

BCAP's mission is to ensure a high quality of life for all members of the Bhutanese community in Pittsburgh and to support their integration into American society through culturally-informed services and activities. Understanding, respecting and appreciating differences in culture and community is a wonderful base for creating friendships. Crossing Cultures, Creating Connections proposes to do just that by using a variety of creative arts as a medium. Our youth represent the community's future and we believe in providing diverse opportunities to engage and build friendship with others through the arts.
