About the project

April being the Month of the Young Child and Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, the goal is to educate the Mon Valley area parents, victims, and associates on how to prevent, support, and identify the signs of sexual assault in their community. We look forward to providing resources to the community on how to discreetly report any suspicious activity, how to get help for any abuse they have experienced and to help victims who have not reported or disclosed their abuse realize that they are not alone and they are able to heal from the trauma they experienced.

The Steps

1. Book a Venue

Every event needs a location!

  • It will fit up to 100 people
  • The venue will also offer virtual for those who are more comfortable being at home

2. Marketing (Middle of February)

Reaching the community is KEY!

When I received half of the funds

  • Creating a conference specific website
  • Printing flyers
  • Making the brochure and booklet for the event.
  • Creating a Facebook Page

3. Seek Staff members (End of March)

We can't do it alone, let's build the community economy

  • Hiring 4 staff members to prepare and help on the day

4. Pay for Babysitter (April 22nd after event)

Are kids a barrier? We got you!

  • $20 babysitter stipend for 50 parents
  • More parents if funds are available

5. Order Lunch (11am April 22nd)

Is Anybody hungry?

6. Pay Presenters

Why we‘re doing it

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is dedicated to building bridges and helping to address issues that go unnoticed, unknown and unaddressed in the lives of the people I serve. This conference will address the social barriers, allowing the community to grow their social interactions with their children, and peers in a healthy less trauma driven way.

It will also address the economic problems, with the community being able to overcome their mental illness they can truly walk in fullness of what is available to them, allowing them to reach heights they never could have imagined themselves going because of the barriers of PTSD, self confidence and the feeling of guilt that comes from sexual abuse.

If we leave the conference with even one parent signing up for health services and getting the help they need it will be an achievement. I personally know the struggle of childhood sexual abuse, I know how difficult it was to connect with my children, my co-workers and to trust people after such a trauma, but through education and utilizing the resources they will be receiving at the conference I have been able to help others, I want the participants to see the very thing that holds them back can be what shapes their success and drives them forward.
