About the project

The City of Euclid and its Keep Euclid Beautiful Committee sought proposals from local artists and artist-led teams to design and install a large-scale mural that involves public participation elements. The mural will celebrate Euclid and its community members and act as a gateway, depending on from which direction you are traveling, into the south or north side of the city. Euclid artist Brittainy Quinn and her artist team were selected by a jury of local artists, residents, businesses and city officials. The mural plays off of the following statements: “do beautiful things” and “discover the “u” and “i” in Euclid”.

We are raising money to directly support Brittainy's team selected through a competitive 'call for artists' process (hosted by Arts Cleveland on https://mycreativecompass.org)! Funds raised on IOBY up to $1,500 will be included in the stipend for the local, talented artist(s) selected to design and implement the giant mural. Additional funds will be used to offset the cost of promotional materials and ensuring the health and safety of all participants in the communtiy painted mural and weekend install event (including portable restrooms and hand sanitizing stations).

The mural project has a public participation element (just like the mural painted in September 2018 on Lakeshore Blvd in downtown Euclid!). A portion of it will take a paint-by-numbers approach and in other locations you can add your painted handprint to the wall. The Keep Euclid Beautiful Committee and other community partners look forward to assisting the artist with the community paint facilitation on Sunday, September 27th in the early afternoon. Stay tuned for the online sign-up. All CDC guidelines will be followed to ensure a safe experience for all involved.

The project is located in the heart of the City of Euclid’s industrial and innovation corridor, on a concrete retaining wall associated with a railroad and owned and maintained by the City of Euclid. The wall is located on the east side of Babbitt Road near the new Amazon complex. A section of Babbitt Road will be closed to vehicles while the mural is installed in September 2020.

In-kind donations of materials and temporary loans of equipment such as scaffolding, drop clothes, paint brushes and containers, speakers, hand wipes, etc are very much needed and appreciated! Keep Euclid Beautiful will provide up to 40 gallons of paint (including primer), colors of the artist’s choosing, through a grant recieved from Sherwin Williams.

The Steps

Why we‘re doing it

The City of Euclid and its Keep Euclid Beautiful (KEB) committee has added a new mural to the city's growing public art collection every year since the committee began in 2017.

This will be the largest mural at nearly 500' long on a highly visible wall and the first KEB mural on the south side of the city.

The intent of the mural is to enliven the corridor for both motorists and pedestrians by transforming the barren landscape into a colorful, welcoming gateway to the City’s innovation and industrial district. We look forward to once again involving the community in the painting process during a safe, social-distanced event to take place the last weekend of September 2020, one of the only city-sanctioned events to occur this season due to COVID-19.
