Ayers Street Tree Garden Mural

Neighborhood Preservation, Inc. would like to add a mural to our existing Ayers Street Tree Garden to help transition this formerly vacant land into a valued community asset.

Location

Ayers Street Memphis, TN 38105

About the project

Neighborhood Preservation, Inc. would like to add a colorful mural at the entry to our existing tree garden located on Ayers Street between Galloway Avenue and J.W. Williams Lane.  Recently, we planted numerous Memphis native trees along this corridor.  Dozens of local volunteers participated in this tree planting event, and Klondike-Smokey City Community Development Corporation facilitated the site's preparation by digging holes and transporting trees from Urban Earth to the garden.

The Steps

We will first contract with a local artist to paint the mural once built.  Next, we will purchase the materials needed to build the mural.  Afterwards, we will schedule a time to rent tools from a local tool bank without charge and a time for volunteers to assist in building the mural.  Once the mural is constructed, we will instruct the local artist to paint the mural.

Why we‘re doing it

Neighborhood Preservation, Inc. (NPI) would like to add a mural to the entry of the tree garden to help transform this this formerly vacant area into a valued community asset.  Part of NPI's mission is to reclaim underutilized land on behalf of community residents in underserved communities, and we have set out to spring new life into this vacant corridor by creating a beautiful tree garden with a colorful mural at the entry to be used as a source of pride for the local community residents.
