About the project
Hi There! My name is Kristian Stovall and I'm one of this year's recipients of the Creative Corps Initiative Awards. In partnership between the California Arts Council (CAC) and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) the Creative Corps Initiative, aims to provide artists with a living wage as they work with nonprofit institutions in their communities within one of the four key issue areas to create a project of their choice. These issue areas include civic engagement, climate justice, community health and wellness, and social justice. My YBCA project focuses on civic engagement and social justice.
The American Heiress: Revelations is a true story and following of an African American woman who has reconnected to her family tree and learned that her colored ancestors weren't from Africa at all, but were Aboriginal American Royalty. Through this discovery, more and more evidence of who the black people in America are were revealed and the truth behind lynchings, segregation, Jim Crow and colonization was given a different perspective.
The American Heiress uses Disney movies to tell her ancestors' stories and American History like it's never been told before.
This project is an ongoing series and will need a production team, live band, performance space, advertisement etc. We are crowdfunding to raise money to properly compensate each and every person that contributes to the project, to further the efforts of the Creative Corps Initiative in providing even more artists with a living wage.
The Steps

Why we‘re doing it
The American Heiress is a fun and eye opening experience that brings the community together to help tell the stories of people who didn't have a voice in the past. In partnership with The American Heiress, The Foundation for American Indian Restoration and Education will be providing the community with weekly genealogy classes so others can have guidance in connecting back to their roots, Curriculum Club (a weekly meeting that takes the research presented in the shows and builds Aboriginal American History lessons), Granny Brigade (council of elders who are advocates for students' and families' rights within the school system), and a youth ministry called American Me which teaches African American youth about their indigenous American culture and customs, as well as character enriching skills.
