About the project
Africa House Cleveland will be hosting a seven-day-long open house. We are calling for skilled and unskilled craftsmen. Volunteers are needed to support our community children's summer youth program. Celebrating 20 years of our youth-at-risk summer program! Opportunities for service learning and preparing now for the ASVGP (African Solar Village Green Project) starting in June. This is the beginning of preparation for Phase I of our building campaign which starts with tours during the open house. We are focused on renovating the building starting with removing and replacing the back wall.
The Steps
Africa House Cleveland will be hosting this event in May. We will be inviting artists, educators, gardeners, and all interested in learning about art and agriculture. We welcome all interested in what Africa House Cleveland is doing including families, friends, supporters, neighbors, and members. For our service learning, we will be preparing the garden for the groups of children that will be visiting the site this summer. Looking to enhance our learning garden which has nine stations, including yard clean-up, planting, and free classes, This event is open to the community and we will have dialogue sessions about the building. We want to reimagine Africa House Cleveland.
Why we‘re doing it
AfricaHouse International is an environmental stewardship grassroots organization dedicated to promoting STEAM through Arts & Culture. We provide outdoor classrooms and prevention programs that cater to children in the neighborhood. We are doing this in memory of not only Dr. Mackey who initiated it all but children in our community who have lost their lives to violence and/or suicide.
