Impact areas
About the project
It makes the area look good and keeps it clean. It stops the residents from throwing garbage there and keeps the rats away. It also gives the seniors a sense of pride and they in turn give the vegetables to the residents.
The Steps
The process has already begun. Some plants, flowers and herbs have already been planted. We just want to expand it. Housing employees ensure that we have a water source to nourish the garden. The director of the center also gets involved. I visit on a weekly basis to be of assistance. Additional planting would take about two weeks. The garden would be watered and nourished for the rest of the season.
Why we‘re doing it
Our gardens could use some plants, flowers and vegetables. There are two spaces that are available to the seniors. They have started one garden and needs assistance with the other one. It is located on NYCHA grounds right between Madison Ave and Park Ave on E. 134 St in Harlem. Funding is short. They need flowers, vegetables and plants.
