About the project
Project V.I.N. (Visibility in Our Neighborhood) is an initiative designed to reclaim our neighborhood by providing blight removal services such as grass mitigation, hoarder cleanup, small minor repairs, junk car and trash debris removal to qualifying seniors, elderly and disabled homeowners who have receive court warnings, actions or sanctions to clean their properties. In order to qualify, homeowners must meet the poverty household income and the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.
Project Impact in the First Year:
Our first year will comprise a six month period of April-October, 2017. We plan to accept up to 4 clients a month and provide services to our clients during this time. During this time, we anticipate serving between 24-30 clients. We anticipate creating jobs by hiring workers from the State of TN of Office of Reentry and/or City of Memphis Office of Youth Services.
The Steps
Accept referrals from our local Environment Courts, Code Enforcement Officials and other Housing Agencies/Officials
Screen citizens to see if they meet our eligibility requirements
Build a provision list based on priorities of service needed
Offer and implement our services for work to commence
Why we‘re doing it
Our goal is to enhance our South Memphis Neighborhood by helping our elderly and/or disabled neighbors receiving a limited income clean up their blighted property.
Remove the financial burden, hardship and legal ramifications that homeowner experience when they can’t afford to pay a contractor to remove blight from their property.
Connect citizens who meet our guidelines with our services and resources. Keeping older people in their homes.
Building a rapport, reaching out and giving back in our neighborhood by serving our seniors and disabled neighbors one house at a time.
