the project
Pumpkinfest is the largest fall children's festival in the City of Pittsburgh, providing a day of fun, rides, educational resources, a health fair and much more in Historic Deutschtown on Pittsburgh's North Side. Allegheny Commons East Park is the beautiful backdrop for our festival. Kids receive a pumpkin to decorate, can ride ponies and play games, jump in one of our many inflatables, receive a free treat and tote bag, and so much more.
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are planning on several new additions for this year's event. Kids can contribute to a Pumpkinfest time capsule to be sealed and vaulted. Kids will also receive a birthday cupcake and ice cream cup. We'll also be dedicating and planting a new sugar maple tree in the park, and adding additional inflatable rides.
More than 1,500 children and their families attend Pumpkinfest, for a total reach on festival day of more than 5,500 people.
the steps
It takes a huge team of staff, volunteers, service providers, vendors and sponsors to make this a great day. EACC provides families with a day of safe fun and resources for an improved quality of life. To make this large, well-attended event a success we: work with more than 40 nonprofit, arts, educational, healthcare and public service groups who attend the festival; three community partners that provide support; more than 200 volunteers for set-up and day-of support; and countless large and small businesses who help provide us with in-kind and monetary financial suppport.
why we're doing it
East Allegheny Community Council is deeply committed to the revitalization of its neighborhood. As such, for 25 years, we've produced the largest fall festival in the city of Pittsburgh for our children.
Our event serves the Northside of Pittsburgh in three zip codes: 15212, 15214 and 15233. Although our census tracts indicate that less than 51% of our geographic area are low-to-moderate income, we estimate that a largeportion of event attendees do fall into this range. We provide a range of educational and healthcare programming and take-aways from Pumpkinfest.
EACC provides families with a day of safe fun and resources for an improved quality of life.
