the project
Under-employed young adults and students will benefit from summer work while helping improve our neighborhood green spaces and learning job skills. Tasks will include both physical gardening and landscaping work along with research projects.
the steps
Experienced neighborhood garden volunteers will supervise youth interns in their daily tasks maintaining the West 132nd Street Community Garden, and surrounding streetscapes. Surrounding streetscapes include sidewalk and avenue mall tree/flower beds. Interns will research and implement best methods for tree, perennial, annual, fruit, vegetable and herb care.
why we're doing it
This project is part of our decades long effort to improve the environment, beautify the neighborhood and include often neglected, less-advantaged youth in the effort.
