Songstress Elissa Carmona will present Sing with SOUL and the 2023 Evolution of Soul, a soul-stirring five-concert series from March through September with the award-winning Morrisania Band Project, and sponsors, Bronx Council on the Arts, Communitas America, Citizens Committee for New York City, and more. All concerts will be open to the public.
Goals are to bolster West Harlem's arts' culture, use music to promote health and well-being, and engage audiences with quality music programming.
the steps
The 2023 Evolution of Soul will run from March through September 2023. All concerts will be open to the public. Steps will include:
- Fundraising - Citizens Committee for New York City has confirmed support and other grants are pending.
- Partnership building - Sponsorships and partnerships will include Communitas America, and local businesses and community groups.
- Marketing and promotion - Outreach efforts will consist of online promotion and flyer distribution beginning in late February until the series concludes.
Sing with SOUL now runs at two Bronx locations, with plans to expand to other centers over the next year.
why we're doing it
Since 2017, Morrisania Band Project has helped reinforce NYC's arts culture by presenting live concerts in public spaces year-round. Events are typically free or low cost, inaccessible locations, and welcome people of all ages and backgrounds. Residents and community advocates identify arts and musical programming for all ages as priorities for positive community development.
Based in the South Bronx, Morrisania Band Project has recently expanded operations to the West Harlem area through support from Communitas America, a cohort-based accelerator program.
