the project

During the 2020 pandemic, there was a feeling of isolation more than ever before. Children and families were stuck in the homes with little to do. Two long term residents of the Brookyln Centre wanted to change this and host a fall celebration, inviting families to embrance the the local ameneties in the community that residents were't taking advantage of- in a covid- safe manner. They brought together three local organizations to host a fall celebration event. There was nothing like this is the community prior, the turn out was 3 times the amount of expected children and families.

the steps

  • Invite community partners to partake in the event (hosting activities, handing out candy and resources)
  • Purchase neccesary supplies
  • Plan and execute day-of festivities

why we're doing it

The Brooklyn Centre Fall Fest was started to give children and families a safe place to partake in fall festivities. There is no formal fall or Halloween celebrations in the community, which means families have to leave their neighborhood to partake in activities.

Additionally, many local residents are unaware of the resources local organizations offer right in their neighborhood! By encouraging residents to stop at the different organizations, if helps them become aware of the different programming.
