summary

This long-term project compile healthy family recipes from our members, using the vegetables we receive throughout the season as the main ingredient.

the problem

We make local fruits and veggies more accessible to our community by running the CSA, which partners with Golden Earthworm Farm on Long Island. We also do educational programming on things like eco-friendly cleaning, environmental issues, and nutrition for children and adults who are part of the CSA and members of the community as well. We also provide subsidies for a certain amount of shares to make this produce available to members who could otherwise not afford to join and help increase awareness of agricultural issues among this disadvantaged group.

the solution

This is a long-term fundraising project for Astoria CSA. The goal is to compile healthy family recipes from our members, using the vegetables we receive throughout the season as the main ingredient. Initial costs fund the production/printing of the book. Monies raised from book sales will fund our subsidized share program for low-income members.

the steps

Compile healthy family recipes that can be implemented throughout the season. All recipes must use some of the received vegetables from the year. Cost covers printing fees, books are sold to raise low-income funds for the 2009 season.
