summary

Our compost project teaches the benefits of composting, provides bins and worms, and instructions on and how to start and keep a bin.

the problem

We make local fruits and veggies more accessible to our community by running the CSA, which partners with Golden Earthworm Farm on Long Island. We also do educational programming on things like eco-friendly cleaning, environmental issues, and nutrition for children and adults who are part of the CSA and members of the community as well. We also provide subsidies for a certain amount of shares to make this produce available to members who could otherwise not afford to join and help increase awareness of agricultural issues among this disadvantaged group.

the solution

One of our most popular workshops! Our compost project teaches the benefits of composting, provides bins and worms, and instructions on and how to start and keep a bin. Perfect for CSA scraps!

the steps

Educate ARROW community and Astoria CSA members about the benefits of composting and how to start and keep their own compost bins. Provide bins and worms for participants.

Project Updates

6th Project Funded!

Three cheers for ioby donors who have now funded six projects! The latest one is another project by the Astoria CSA to teach a course on the benefits and techniques of composting. So far ioby donors have funded three projects in Queens, two in Brooklyn, and one in Manhattan. See the project here. If you were wondering, the average donation size is $40, but we have a lot of projects that wouldn't have been funded without a number of $5 donations. You don't have to be wealthy to support ioby projects; you just need to care.
