We will restore two sections of the garden by removing cement, and other debris, and to replant these areas and make them usable.
the problem
All People's Garden is a community garden located in the Borough of Manhattan, Lower East Side. This public Garden was founded by Olean For, and was purchase from the City of New York. The garden is now part of the Manhattan Land Trust (group of 14 gardens working together) The garden is botanical in nature with numerous planting. The problem to be address iis the contamination of a section of the garden where a major wall work was completed by plaster, cement and bricks.
the solution
The project for which we are asking funding would eliminate this environmental problem by removing approximately 1500 cubic feet of debris, cement, brick and other contaminant from the garden and allow the designated area to be planted and use fully by the members and community residents.
the steps
The organization would hire a carting company, and with paid and volunteer helpers remove the debris to a dumpster and have it safetly disposed of. In place of the debris removed, the members would install new fertile dirt and compost for the planting of new plants and vegetables.
