After a successful first round of fundraising through IOBY, the Community Garden at Allegheny Commons is ready to sprout! This spring, with the help of Grow Pittsburgh, 17 raised garden beds will be constructed and initial improvments to the space will be made. Now, through a very generous sponsorhip from Faros Properties, the community garden can increase the number of garden beds and repair the lot surface.
Through their sponsorship, Faros Properties is doubling every donation to this page dollar-for-dollar up to $2,000. The Community Garden Committee thanks Faros Properties for thier support and generosity.
the steps
Once the funds have been raised, including the generous donation from Faros Properties, the garden can continue to expand and move toward the finalized conception. These funds will be used for an increased number of garden beds and lot surface improvements.
why we're doing it
We are building the Allegheny Commons Community Garden to encourage new relationships and exchanges among people, support healthy lifestyles through gardening and develop a distinctive community asset.
Your contribution is valued and will help us to:
- Return a derelict space to active use
- Beautify and improve gateways to Allegheny Commons Park/Northside/Deutschtown
- Improve relations between diverse communities/neighborhoods
- Provide opportunities for business district engagement
- Build partnerships with community organizations and establish educational opportunities
- Promote stewardship and community involvement with local youth
