All the projects dedicated to relief efforts around Hurricane Sandy will be posted here. In addition, we'll add projects to this page that are related to making coastal cities more prepared for extreme weather events. If you have a project that needs funding now, please post it at ioby.org/idea.

ioby also collected citizen ideas for making NYC -- and other coastal cities -- better prepared for extreme weather events, online and in person at our annual benefit on November 15th, 2012. Three hundred and eighty people contributed ideas so far, and we released all the ideas here in a report. Check out the report on our blog.

Sandy Relief Efforts - Provide warm clothing and footwear

We will be buying clothing and footwear and provide help to victims of Sandy. We can provide clean dry relief to our friends and neighbors - many of whom who lost everything.

Shore Soup Project

We're a volunteer-led group preparing hot soups in Rockaway and delivering them door-to-door to Rockaway residents, all of whom have been hard hit by Hurricane Sandy.

Red Hook Initiative asks on Nov 8: Please send us an email to volunteers@rhicenter.org to let us know what time you are able to volunteer. We'll let you know when we have enough support so we don't bring in more people than we have assignments for. Please come to the Red Hook Initiative, 767 Hicks Street in Red Hook, corner of West 9th, anytime from 10am - 6:30pm today or tomorrow.
 
Coney Island was devastated in Hurricane Sandy and most of its residents STILL are dealing with extreme circumstances. Transdiaspora Network's community bloghas been updated with new details about our upcoming hurricane disaster relief effort next Saturday, November 10th, starting at 11:00AM. Without action, nothing happens. The source of performance is action. Nothing more, nothing less.
 
Regarding relief efforts at Gowanus Houses, please call 347-806-6435. Contributions can be delivered to Gowanus Community Center, 420 Baltic Street in Brooklyn and will be accepted until 6 p.m. We apologize if we haven't responded to your e-mail earlier.

Also, we announce new cleanup/assistance/canvassing (for the purposes of making sure people are ok) efforts every day at 12PM. Lastly, you can take a look at our Facebook group - Jersey City Sandy Recovery.
 
Donate-A-Bag opportunities are available at many Greenmarket locations from now through Thanksgiving.  Help feed hungry New Yorkers, those affected by Sandy and relief workers by purchasing an extra bag of produce and bring it to the Market Information Tent. We'll get it where it needs to go.  For an up-to-date schedule of markets where you can Donate-A-Bag go to grownyc.org/blog/  Customers are donating harvest season items in record numbers in response to the immense need for hunger relief that Sandy created.  Over 10,000 pounds have found their way to community kitchens, churches, shelters, food pantries and others serving victims of the storm.
