the project

The 2nd Annual Walter Hyde Memorial Fleet Music Festival is a one-day celebration of the diverse and rich musical talent and traditions of Slavic Village and the surrounding community. It will feature live performances by 12 bands on 4 stages, local artists, food vendors, small businesses, community resources, and child-friendly activities. The festival aims to showcase the talent and creativity of our community, foster cultural exchange and appreciation, and attract diverse visitors to the neighborhood.

Some unexpected challenges have come up in the last few weeks, so we've changed the date to October 14th and launched this campaign to save the music festival. We want to continue this labor of love to honor Walter's memory, and to celebrate and connect with our community.

the steps

Planning and preparation for the Music Festival is underway!

  • Promote awareness of and engagement with the festival via social media and print
  • Recruit additional volunteers
  • Confirm vendors and resources
  • Celebrate!

why we're doing it

The music festival was organized as a tribute to beloved community member and small business owner Walter Hyde. He dreamed of having a music festival along the Fleet Avenue corridor, but passed away unexpectedly in the fall of 2021. The Walter Hyde Fleet Jamboree transformed his dream into a reality for the neighborhood in 2022.
